Raving, I’m raving!

Published in Diary    Written by DJ Upakut

As a raver from day dot I have loved underground dance music - from the illegal raves to the big nightclubs. I listened to hip hop (still do), but while at a mate’s house a friend named Duncan (soon to become famous in the scene as DJ Trace) used to hang once in a while. Once he came in and started talking about a rave in a field called Biology. The lights, music, and atmosphere sounded electrifying. But whilst my hip hop mates played it off I kinda got into it - raving music.

Stupid O’ Clock is the brainchild of Core Magazine GFG Editor Keith Souch, writer Ruben Shaw and Core clubs writer Jon Brown, created after many discussions about how much Jon and Keith in particular missed their earlier stints in the realm of radio broadcasting. It was often brought to the table that a new comedy broadcast could be written, but often with Jon’s no holds barred approach to being outspoken on a lot of subjects and even more so with Keith’s darkly comic, yet witty and genius take on blue comedy (coupled with the fact that he also is ruthlessly fearless in his approach to subjects he feels impassioned by); the project was often put on hold, because the limitations of broadcast often meant that if a show was ever to go ahead - it would be very censored and therefore, not really as the comedy double would ever have envisaged.

Recently, my friends and I went to Thorpe Park. Now that sentence sounds great. Anybody who has any clue that Thorpe Park is theme park is probably picturing a great day out! Now as true as this is for the most part, the day is not as simple as going to Thorpe and enjoying the rides, there is more to it than that.

It’s been busy at Autobot studios since we spoke to you last. We’ve been back to tour Australia for a second time, have had releases on AWsum black, Bionic digital and Intolerance Recordings. We have also been remixing for / been remixed by, Activator, Cally and Juice, Kidd Kaos and Technikal. We are about to start a busy months DJ’ing at lots of our favorite events including Firewall, Atmosphere, Slammin Vinyl, and many more!

Mark EG's Month Of Music

Published in Diary    Written by Mark EG

2010. The year that music and the economy was turned upside down. The goal posts uprooted themselves, sprinted to the other end of the pitch and were re-planted in the mulberry bush next to the corner flag. But if that wasn’t enough, the insatiable madman in the lounge (aka our good friend the TV) helped create global panic in the form of a recession and spread a haze of uncertainty over the very centre of the music industry. How the hell have we managed to keep it together for the last twelve months? Let me explain.
