Discussing Life, Labels, and Divas with Ant TC1 and Onset
In the hour I spent talking to Ant (Ant TC1) and Alex (Onset) a few things became apparent. Firstly, these two must be the hardest working men in music: secondly, they really, really, like their vinyl: and thirdly, running a label involves cutting out a LOT of stickers.
Ant and Alex together run Dispatch Recordings; one of the most well respected and proliferate drum and bass labels, and Momentum; a DnB night in Leeds which is soon to see its 10th birthday. They are also heavily involved with Outlook festival and Dimensions festival, which are held in Croatia every summer.
Read on to hear what it’s like working as event organisers and label heads, how you can get noticed by a large label, what isn’t right about Huddersfield, and why it’s not good to be a DnB diva.
Get Locked Down in Amsterdam
One event you won’t want to be missing this month is Lockdown Festival. Held at the NDSM shipyard, the line-up they’ve crafted has to be the best of the summer for Holland’s bass minded.
Introducing Perverse
Perverse are one of the most popular newcomers on the dubstep and garage scene. They've only been making music for a year, but the success they’ve seen with their productions has been mind-blowing and yet completely justified. These sub-bass architects have created tracks with a beautiful resonance. They will appeal to fans of all genres, not just classic bass fans.
La Revolucion, London
LALDN are one of the most exciting emerging brands I have found. Not just focusing on fashion, they span various specialisms, holding events both for fashion and music while creating conceptual video footage to promote the brand. As can be seen from the video footage, they have serious style and an attitude to match. They refuse to define themselves into a particular creative niche, describing their movement as a ‘philosophy’ and a ‘way of thinking’.
Getting to grips with Author
While covering Summer Saturnalia, a festival located in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, Core got the chance to speak to Jack Sparrow and Ruckspin: two established dubstep artists who produce together under the alias ‘Author’.
Reamz gives it away for free
Like melodic dubstep? Then download the free track by Reamz, an up-and-coming dubstep producer. Reamz produces music that is similar in style to the music supported by Will Benton (FatKidOnFire) in his recent article for Core.
Event News: July Momentum
Core is here to keep you up to date with upcoming news and events. If you are in Leeds on Friday 27th July look out for Momentum at Wire.
