Over the last year we have had more than our fair share of alien films. It would be hard to imagine that anyone could come up with something fresh and original – thankfully Peter Jackson’s protégé manages to do just that. Neil Blomkamp adapted his six minute documentary ‘Alive in Jo’burg’ which explored the themes of apartheid and from that he came out with this extraordinary documentary style sci-fi.
The long awaited Inglorious Basterds has finally arrived, and like all Quentin Tarantino movies, it was worth the wait. The road was long and arduous and the script over the years had taken on many different shapes. At one point Tarantino was thinking of making Basterds into a television series, but fellow director Luc Besson convinced him otherwise, telling him that his films belong on the big screen. And how right he was.
‘MORE HALO!’ When ODST was announced I was as happier than Larry, actually I was as happy as a Larry convention. Then the news came – ‘you will not be playing as Master Chief’ – disappointment set in. Halo without Master Chief is like morning without coffee, it’s like curry without lager. Then along came Halo Wars and I found that I still loved the series without the use of my favourite Spartan and my faith began to restore.
Batman: Arkham Asylum is based on the comic series of the same name, unlike most other Batman games that previously have been based on the films or TV shows. Cleverly though as to not make it feel too out of place, the game version of the Arkham Asylum story has been written by long time Batman animation writer, Paul Dini. Dini is not the only member of the Batman Animated alumni to return as so do the voice cast. Kevin Conroy returns to his rightful place voicing Batman, so then it is only fitting to have his nemesis voiced by long time, (and some may say greatest), Joker, Mark Hamill.
Where to start with G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. That’s a tough one, mainly due to the fact that as soon as I started the game I wanted it to end. Having seen the mediocre movie, my hopes were high that maybe this game would be able to salvage the G.I. Joe, (that’s Action Force to you and me), memories I have from my younger years. But alas, my inner child was knocked to the ground such was Steven Sommers’ atrocity as he was kicked while he was down thanks to this game.
