Hi, great to meet you guys!
Thank you, we appreciate your time, for this interview.
In the unlikely event that our readers haven't heard of you - could you give us a quick introduction to New Company DnB?
New Company DnB are a Live, Eclectic, Vocal Drum n Bass band, we’re a group of Djs, Producers, Singers, Musicians and MC’s. We perform at various Drum n Bass events and festivals all over Europe. The only way to describe our music is - innovative, pumping beats and sharp b-lines, coupled with variations of wide-ranging vocals. All blended into a fusion of scintillating musical Drum n Bass.
Our lyrics reflect everyday life. A tune for every emotion, sprinkled with loving and positive, uplifting vibes.
What styles/genres of music influence you?
Because there are quite a few of us in the band, we are influenced by pretty much all genres of music. Some of us were involved in sound systems back in the day, playing a lot of reggae Hip Hop and soul music, and MCing at parties getting the crowd going, some were brought up listening to Pop and Rock or Calypso or Jazz depending on our parents tastes. Then like a lot of others when the dance scene kick off we got into House, Garage, Break beat, Jungle and DnB.
New Company was formerly known as Blackmagik - why the name change?
Over the last year or so, we realized that it was time to get back to what we really love doing and decided to bring a few new members into the Blackmagik/New Company family, then felt that a change of band members and a change of the band energy, pretty much needed a change of name as well.
You've been out of the limelight for a few years, why is that? Were you still producing music during that time?
Yes, all of the original band members were pulled in different directions working on individual projects, and also getting a bit sidetracked by life, as you do, which didn’t really allow enough time or energy for Blackmagik. We were all still making music in various genres doing a lot of live stuff and kind of kept in touch and always said that we would get back to it as soon as the time was right.
Core's heard you've got some new members involved with New Company. Who are they and what ideas/styles do they bring to the table?
Yes, we have quite a few new members:
Charlotte Robinson – Vocalist and Lyricist: who brings fresh, sweet, uplifting vocals and lyrics
Wayne Paul - Vocalist and Lyricist: who brings his own unique Reggae vocal style and lyrics
MC Ranger T – MC/Vocalist and Lyricist: who brings a whole package of uplifting and conscious vocal excellence and flavours
DJ Energy – He is a big name on the drum and bass scene, one of the midlands finest DnB DJs
Dee Anthony – DJ/Producer: well know and established DJ and Producer on various genres of the dance scene
Paul McGrath – DJ/Producer: the dark horse, has been producing and releasing drum n bass tracks on and off, on various labels since the 90’s
And from the original Blackmagik:
MC Stixman: MC/Vocalist and Lyricist
Valerie M: Vocalist, Lyricist and co-producer
Lee ‘DJ Spika’ Williams: DJ, Producer, MC, Lyricist and Remixer
Brings the band to 9 members
You must be really excited about the new material that you're producing - what are your most innovative projects at the moment?
Yes, we are really enjoying the whole journey, producing, rehearsing and performing the tracks, we’ve got a whole load new different and exciting ideas for tracks, combining and merging pretty much all styles of music to keep what we do fresh and different, as well as hanging out with a collection of focused and like-minded musicians.
Core saw you featuring your live PA showcase at BPM - how did that go down? What has the response been like since then?
Yes we had a great time performing at BPM, a different environment to perform in and we had a very good response from the audience, and were told by many people afterwards, how much they enjoyed the show. We then did a live web streamed interview with the B-Side Project in the BPM exhibition which was good fun. We’ve also been talking to various contacts that we met at BPM, arranging gigs, radio shows, interviews etc.
New Company DnB is inherently known for their down to earth lyrics reflecting everyday life that the masses relate to - is this the secret of your success?
We don’t know, I suppose you could say that, our lyrics are about real life, music for the masses. We try to give positive messages in all our songs, singing about life experiences, while having fun with our lyrics, always looking at the glass as half full.
What does the future hold for New Company DnB - albums? gigs? forthcoming releases?
The future for New Company DnB looks real good, we’re making and releasing more and more tracks and booking more gigs. Check our website, Facebook and YouTube for more tracks, videos and details. We’re looking forward to performing all over the globe, and sharing our music. We’ve got a new release called “The Humble EP” out at the beginning of December 2012 on “Source Code DnB” which is like our ‘Big Brother’ company, releasing and promoting our tracks on the label (In fact Source Code DnB are releasing a lot of great Drum n Bass). You can buy them on all good digital download websites like iTunes etc. So expect to hear and see a lot more of New Company DnB. We enjoy it too much, so we have to keep doing what we do.
