Core: Hi Ace, how are you? Where in the world are you right now and what are you working on?
Ace: I’m great. Right now I'm somewhere between Germany and Israel (on my way back from gigs in Switzerland and Sweden) working on this interview... I’m writing this from the plane. Gotta love internet up in the air!
C: We're already part way into 2012, but how was 2011 for you?
A: It's been very busy but so far so good, playing almost each weekend abroad and in Israel during the week. Been trying to work on music in between gigs but it ain't easy. Having two kids doesn't leave a lot of free time either...

Core speaks to Ace Ventura ahead of Glade festival
Written by Gideon ThomasFestival season is well and truly upon us, with weekends being pencilled into diaries left, right and centre. One of the biggest dates on the dance music calendar has to be Glade, coming up in June in Norfolk. Ahead of the festival we chatted to Israeli trance DJ, producer and performer, Ace Ventura. Ace lets us into his world to discuss festivals, releases and lots more.
C: What's 2012 held for you so far, and what are you looking forward to this year?
A: Apart from the travelling I've been working on a few projects. My Easy Riders project (together with Roy 'Rocky' Tilbor) has been signed by Eyal Yankovich and HOMmega records, who recently released an EP called Flashback. Another project of mine, which I am very excited about, is Zentura, my collaboration with Zen Mechanics. We’ve made quite a few tracks and recently played them out in our debut live set in a huge party in Israel by Groove Attack. It was just fantastic, we couldn't hope for a better launch. I've also had several sets around the world with Nicola (Liquid Soul) playing as LIQUID ACE. And of course, amidst all that, been working on my own music, so I'm looking forward to the release of the second Ace Ventura album, by the end of the year. It’s been a while since the first one!
C: What can festivalgoers expect from the Ace Ventura experience at Glade festival?
A: I love Glade. I had good fun when I played there a few years ago. People who have seen me play know that my main concern is to make the dance floor get busy. I’m planning on playing my strongest tunes of the moment, alongside a few old favourites… the experience won't be for the weak, so be prepared to come to work!
C: What are some of your best memories of festivals around the globe?
A: Boom 2006, Universo Parallelo 2007, Ozora 2010 and 2011... The 2006 set in Boom really kick-started my Ace career and the gig in Ozora last year was an emotional and breathtaking highlight of it.
C: Your career to date has been incredibly diverse, working in many different areas with different people. How has your journey brought you to this place and time?
A: It's amazing how one move can be so significant: by that I mean the the change I made when leaving the (still successful) Psysex project to go solo with Ace Ventura and progressive trance. I've been blessed and very lucky, what can I say? I also give credit to a lot of good and talented friends, with whom I've worked with over the years, namely Nicola (Liquid soul), Wouter (Zen Mechanics), Rocky (Easy Riders), Reshef (Captain Hook), and Yuli (Perfect Stranger).
C: For people who might be new to Ace Ventura, how would you sum up your sound?
A: I really hate this question in interviews... My official bio says: ‘pumping progressive psytrance’. I guess my sound lies somewhere inbetween the lines of progressive trance and full on psytrance... a little bit of both worlds, blending atmosphere and power into a dance floor rocket to light up the universe! How is that summary working for ya?
C: Sounds good to me, man! Tell us about some of the releases you have coming out soon.
A: I have a few Ace Ventura collaborations coming up, with Darma, Timelock and Symbolic, all from Israel. Zentura will soon see the light of day with an EP on Iboga records, as well as a track on a new compilation that I'm working on (NEW ORDER vol.3, compiled by Easy Riders and out soon on HOMmega records). Last but not least, the second Ace Ventura album is due out by the end of the year on Iboga, and is titled Paradise Engineering.
C: Finally, do you have any messages for the readers, and any shouts you'd like to give out?
A: Stay off the street kids and don't do.... nah, see you in GLADE, I'm really looking forward to it!
If you want to join Ace at Glade, 14-17 June 2012, at Houghton Hall, Norfolk, tickets are still available. For tickets and full line up you can check out www.gladefestival.com or you can follow them @gladeofficial or, of course, find them on Facebook.
