It’s time now to introduce you to a rising star on the music scene, Matt Chapman, also known as Wreckless. Matt is 24 from Essex and has recently had a new EP released on the Peer Pressure label, a UK bass music label, which "specialises in good music".

Matt describes himself as being a massive music geek and a huge lover of electronic music - when he isn’t laying down gorgeous beats, he can be found working in his day job as a music technology teacher or engaging in his other passions (he is a closet juggler and yoyoer who also loves
watching cooking programmes and drinking tea)!

"I love tea – it actually defines who I am, I can’t make music without it!

"My music changes a lot from release to release, because normally what I write is massively dependant on how I feel… But rest assured, every track I write is heavily focused on bass and percussion.”

Matt’s musical journey started at school when he first started listening to garage music. He used to recite the lyrics to Do You Really Like It all the time with his friends. However, his journey took a different turn when ArcAudio gave him a One Nation tape which set him on the path that
brought him to where he is today. For years he worked on a radio station as an MC with a DJ called Brewer G and he studied music technology at school, then college and university. It was through this extensive schooling in music tech that he started making the tunes that he is now using to make a name for himself.

His first release was on Peer Pressure International: since then they have signed further tracks of his, and recently they released his new EP, Smoke Signal, which is available to buy now.

His tracks have also received airplay on local and national radio, both on the BBC Introducing show, and also on BBC Radio 1Xtra by the man Bailey himself. Matt goes so far as to describe this as his proudest moment so far.

Matt sums up the sounds on his new EP for us: “It is three tracks, Smoke Signal, which is a deceptive percussive thing by myself. Source code by Necrobia and I is a really dark stomper swamp thing. Then finally, Head Groove is the track which has caused a few waves. This was made by ArcAudio and myself and its a fusion between old school bass and breakneck beats.”

So there you have it!

You can check out his new Smoke Signal EP and also hear earlier releases on Peer Pressure, plus additional tracks that he has uploaded. Definitely keep your ears peeled for future gems from this young man as I’m sure he has a bright future ahead of him in the UK bass music scene.
