Core presents... the Top 50 Female Dance Music Artists 2012

Written by

Men have always dominated the music industry. From way back when we were cavemen, it is supposed that men provided the beats that women would dance around the fire to.

Fast-forward millions of years, and despite the high level of women currently in the dance music industry, there has been only one woman (Claudia Cazacu, who peaked at number 93 in 2010) in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll. This has caused outrage in the public, and rightly so; even Annie Mac, who hosts three shows on Radio 1, DJs regularly at Fabric and other massive club nights, and whose albums ‘Annie Mac Presents’ regularly hit the top spots in the charts, doesn’t get a look in.

There have been efforts to increase the profile of females in the dance music industry: Armin Van Buuren recently dedicated a stage to all females on the last date of his A State of Trace tour.

Van Buuren recently said: “It would be a great thing if at least 15 percent of the DJ Mag Top 100 in 2013 are female!” Well, here at Core, we can promise that 100 percent of our poll is female, as we prepare to recognize and congratulate the Top 50 Female Dance Music Artists as voted for you on our Facebook page.
