According to the XX, ‘Chained’ was one of the last tracks to be recorded for the new album. Despite this, Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim return with the same yearning harmonious vocal exchanges we heard in 2009. The soft pulsing drum, breathy vocals and waving crescendos are as soothing as those we heard in ‘Fantasy’ and ‘Infinity.’
Electro-indie trio The XX first won the hearts of thousands with their debut album ‘XX,’ released in 2009 also on Young Turks; ‘XX’ blew both fans and critics away and ranked second on the NME ‘best of the year’ year list. Therefore, it goes without saying that ‘Coexist’ has a lot to live up to. As well as listening to ‘Chained,’ fans can get a taste of what ‘Coexist’ has to offer from the single ‘Angels,’ which was released for digital download on 16 July 2012.
‘Chained’ can be streamed from the XX website http://thexx.info/
The album is also available for pre-order from the same site.
