Jonny Slide Feat Ben Marlow - Another Brick In The Wall
http://soundcloud.com/jonny-slide/jonny-slide-feat-ben-marlow
The first thing you notice here IS the excellent vocal from Ben Marlow! It’s a great idea to use the ‘Brick In The Wall’ lyric, as it’s so recognizable. But this is done cleverly. Musically all the elements are in the right place and the production is good – although a little ‘old’ sounding. Nice placement on the vocals though! 7/10
Kyx 'New Dawn'
http://soundcloud.com/kyx-2/kyx-stay
The idea of this one is good. A really great, chilled out vibe about the whole thing. However we can’t help feeling the main sounds need to be brought out of the mix more as you find the breakbeat is too prominent throughout the whole track. Either that or knock the break back slightly. A good foundation for a track. 6/10

Harm0nizer - Love is a Melody
http://soundcloud.com/harm0nizer/love-is-a-melody-harmonizer
There’s just so many elements going on here, it’s a wonder he’s managed to fit them all into the mix! There’s an experimental vibe going on that we love and it means that there’s all kinds of clever action happening (such as the unusual vocal panning) that is really setting this producer apart. At first we worried about the 4/4 kick at the beginning but once that comes out and track gets rolling, it really works well. So much so when the kick comes back, it actually sounds 100% right! 8/10
Yoko - Past And Future
http://soundcloud.com/yokoz0r/yoko-past-and-future
Tight sounding production with loads of great melodies that all work together perfectly. We love the Arpeggiator! The filter changes on the main sound after the break give it all wonderful movement and a sense of purpose that keep you focused until the very end. This one sounds current and clever – something that more than deserves to be out there in the public domain. 8/10

Kosheen - Spies (Yoko Remix)
http://soundcloud.com/yokoz0r/kosheen-spies-yoko-remix
Superb work! Musically Yoko has got it spot on but it’s the percussion that works really well here. The snare is distorted to just the right extent and the progression keeps you interested from the off. The tamb could do with a little work on the placement but to be fair, this is releasable as it is. As far as the bass goes – it’s wonderfully clean and fits beautifully. 8/10

Conspiracy Factor - Robot Tears
http://soundcloud.com/conspiracy-factor/conspiracy-factor-robot-tears
This is immediately interesting due to its experimental nature, but we cant help noticing it’s all a little ‘muffled’. This could be the compression of the mp3 uploaded to Soundcloud, but it’s extremely hard to judge production when it’s hard to truly hear what’s happening. This however, is the kind of track that needs to be on an album with several similar tracks – a complete listening experience. Great off-the-wall melodies that push the genre into new territory. We’d definitely buy the album on WAV! 7/10
WINNER
Missrepresent - Spellbound
http://soundcloud.com/missrepresent/silent-code-spell-bound
This one is the clear winner for us! It’s actually already been released and rightly so. Apparently inspired by many of the old school producers, they’re actually making a very fresh, forward thinking sound. Alinina’s vocals are mesmerizing, the ‘Silent Code’ sample works beautifully and all the production elements are just right. In fact there’s nothing here that we’d change whatsoever. Full marks! 10/10

DJ Parody – Irritation
http://soundcloud.com/dj-parody/irritation
This is a good mix but it’s falling more into the hardcore techno/breakcore category than pure drum n bass, so it’s hard for us to judge it and give it a mark. However, the mixing is smooth and track transitions are clever and there’s an innovative quality to the whole thing.
Rikines Nomadz / Northern Scum
http://soundcloud.com/rikines/northern-scum-this-is-why-im
Great mix with an old school flava. Mixing is tight, although on occasions there are a few crossfades that don’t sound perfect. We love it though and these guys need to be watched! 7/10
Muttley
http://soundcloud.com/muttley_uk/overload-competition-dnb-mix
Slight volume/dynamics drop at seven minutes but apart from that it’s a solid mix with some great tracks. Musically it works on so many levels and dimensions. Get this man some work! 7/10
WINNER!
Droppa - Saturday Mix
http://soundcloud.com/droppadj/droppa-saturday-mix
The quality of mixing here is excellent, with each track ‘dropping’ into the next damn well - and pretty quickly too. But what we like more is the programming! All the tracks have that in your face mid-bass vibe that comes across incredibly through a good sound system. 47 minutes of some superb sounding stuff here. A great mix! 9/10
Yoko - Minimix for German DnB Community Vol.1
http://soundcloud.com/yokoz0r/minimix-for-german-dnb-community-vol1
It’s a bit hard to tell the caliber of a DJ with only a twenty-two minute mix but oh my what a twenty-two minutes this is! Eleven tracks in total (which is not to be sniffed at). It’s full of excitement. The first mix lets it down though... The Seba remix of Robert Owens at the end is just heavenly! 8/10

DJ WLA - Hard Times For The Heart
http://soundcloud.com/dj-wla/hardtimesfortheheart
It’s a shame but although the tracks here are all dope, the first thing you notice about this mix is the drop in sound quality. It’s important if you’re up against so many other DJ’s to get it so that your demos are sounding sparkly and recorded as well as you can. The mixing ability is definitely there – just work on the recording chain if you can! 7/10

Anxiety - Piano's Classics & Jump Ups
http://soundcloud.com/anxiety/anxiety-pianos-classics-jump
Again, this is a very short mix and although there’s some quite phrenetic mixing going on here, the thing that lets it down is the noticable dynamic changes when each track comes in. It’s important when you’re mixing to get the volumes EXACTLY the same for each track and occasionally we really lose the energy here. Good music though! 6/10
Anxiety - 21.4.12 Dark Fm Last Set
http://soundcloud.com/anxiety/anxiety
There’s some interesting points in this mix but again, similar to the mix above, the dynamics fall a little short in places. A mix should ideally progress, but sometimes it feels like it’s going backwards when the bass dynamics drop. And yes, that Slum Dogz remix is killa! 6/10
